CASE STUDY
eVTOL safety audit and assessment
- Client: Confidential
- Sector: Aerospace
BACKGROUND
The potential of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles to transform personal and commercial transport in cities is attracting keen interest and investment within the Urban Air Mobility (UAM) sector. All such aircraft designs need to comply with the standards imposed by the presiding safety agency in order to be granted Type Certification.
THE CHALLENGE
Our client needed independent advice at aircraft level, specifically to review and improve aircraft level safety assessments and processes towards European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Type Certification. Ebeni was tasked to provide support in assessing system functions and the system design in accordance with ARP4761 and SC/MOC.VTOL (Special Condition produced for innovative technologies). The task also included identification of safety analysis techniques to support innovative technologies within an emerging regulatory framework.
OUR SOLUTION
We provided strategic advice for System Safety plans and processes, supported safety assessments on multiple aircraft systems and carried out an independent review of all aircraft level documentation. Finally, we supported both internal and external audits to ensure an acceptable level of system safety was achieved.
THE BENEFIT
Our work resulted in the safety process and safety programme plan being accepted by EASA. We also ensured that the EASA Design Organisation Approval (DOA) audit, including safety documentation, was achieved.
